Recent consultancy work

TRACC is an independent research organisation and occasionally undertakes specific consultancy work which will clearly benefit our conservation aims and environments in general.

RECENT PROJECTS INCLUDE:-

Environmental Sensitivity Index projects for Brunei, Sarawak and Sabah.

These sensitivity indeces will enable managers responsible for oil spills to take the best possible steps to minimise impacts from an oil spill both before and after it reaches the shore.

The choice and use of oil spill cleanup dispersants in tropical environments is poorly known.

Offshore Environmental Assessment.

To study the effects of offshore drilling and recommend ways to minimise impact from oil well drilling and the use of potentially toxic drilling muds.

Sensitivity Index Mapping for Coral Reefs using RoxAnn.

A seismic survey for the Champion Reef oil field posed a potential threat to the Coral reefs in the area.  TRACC staff used RoxAnn seabed profiling system to map the reefs and then guide the placement of the seismic survey reciever cables to minimise damage to reefs. For the same seismic survey it became evident that very little was actually known about the impacts of seismic airgun blasts on coral reef environments.  The project was designed to assess these impacts during a carefully controlled series of experimental field trials

Toxicity Project.

Our Toxicity Project measured the impact of different dispersants on species from many environments and from this, we made recommendations for use which will minimise impact from the cleanup operations.

TRACC is actively involved in other areas of research specifically on marine conservation. For more information, please visit our website.
