BSP STAKEHOLDER CONSULTATION FOR PRODUCED WATER DISPOSAL

CLIENT: BRUNEI SHELL PETROLEUM COMPANY SDN. BHD.

A new scheme for discharge of Produced Water is proposed by BSP in response to corporate environmental policy and Draft Discharge Standards from Brunei Government.  The preferred scheme is via undersea pipeline to discharge 6.0km offshore.

IEC were engaged to undertake Stakeholder Consultation to identify affected parties; (government and private sector) inform them of the proposal; seek their feedback and .address their concerns.  This would enable BSP to adjust the proposed scheme and obtain consensus support for the project to proceed.

Stakeholder Information Packs were prepared in English and Malay and once feedback was obtained a Government Forum was held to clarify issues and provide response from BSP. Over 28 government agencies were involved, with subsequent consultation of commercial and local fishermen operating in the vicinity of the discharge point.

The process resulted in confirmation of the preferred scheme and an outline for monitoring and reporting on the offshore disposal scheme when commissioned.
