CLIENT: UBD DESIGN TEAM & THE GOVERNMENT OF BRUNEI DARUSSALAM

It was a historic day for Education in Negara Brunei Darussalam when His Majesty and Yang Di-Pertuan the Sultan of Brunei, recently laid the foundation stone for the University of Negara Brunei Darussalam at the scenic Tungku Beach on the shores of the South China Sea.

CMPS&F International through its local joint-venture company, IEC Sdn Bhd were appointed early in 1992 to undertake the landscape architectural design for the 120 ha campus, under the direction of the UBD Design Team.

The initial B$180M campus development concentrated on the academic core consisting of five key faculties, lecture theaters and staff and student services; catering for a student population in excess of 2,000 people.

The landscape design has involved the rationalization between different landuses, circulation and other site elements to provide a functionally suitable, accessible and visually attractive environment to staff, students and visitors alike. The main university buildings have been grouped around a major formal open space providing a strong focus for the campus and facilitating pedestrian movement and interaction.

The design phase of the project was completed in October 1992 and the construction of the project was completed by April 1994.
